What is Peak Oil? It refers to the maximum extraction rate of oil after which, oil being a finite resource, the rate of extraction declines. So what? What will happen if oil or other fossil fuels deplete? No more fuel for car? So what? We have electric car and car powered by hydrogen. But, think again, where does your electricity and hydrogen come from? How are they produced?
While the world energy source is decreasing, the world energy demand is soaring.
While the world energy source is decreasing, the world energy demand is soaring.
The root of the energy crisis : Earth’s human population is currently nearly 7 billion people and is continuously increasing.
There are renewable energy, such as Solar, Hydro, Biomass, Wind... However, sun shine does not always penetrate through the clouds, hydro power causes loss of animals habitat, plants growing requires large area of land and wind blowing is inconsistent.
Let's say your friend needs 1k dollars and you spare him 1 dollar. I would say 1 dollar is good but it doesn't solve your friend's problem. In other words, the amount of energy generated is too small to support the demand.
It's sad but we still have to depend on fossil fuel for the next 10- 20 years.
There are debates going on saying that the peak oil calculation is based on the resources identified by the geologists. They may be still more fossil fuels that are yet to be found.
Anyway, there are still other problems. Global Warming Next.
